Fated, Part Two — Huge Dilemma

Okay, I’ve got a huge dilemma on my hands for Fated, Part Two.

Let’s start here first…

Amazon is great in so many ways…and not so great in so many other ways. When it comes to self publishing they walk with you each step of the way and make it fairly easy…when it comes to self publishing a novella that has “parts or sections” to it, um, not so much. However, if Amazon Serial stories had been available last year when Fated came out…I wouldn’t be in this situation, but alas that’s a story for another time.

You see, Amazon offers a service to self published authors that allows you to update your manuscript and get those updates to your readers…in somewhere around a four week timeframe. Um, readers of the Timeless Series with severe cases of CATTS, well, this would be like getting your tooth pulled without Novocain. See their policy below…

So here’s my options…Option one: I upload Fated, Part Two into the current Amazon Fated file and you can do either one of two things:

  • You can wait up to four weeks to get notification from Amazon that an update has been made to the Fated file. Of course that’s if you have your “auto” updates on, which you have to find on your Amazon dashboard.
  • You delete the Fated file from your Kindle, or whatever other reading device you’re using. You then go to your Amazon dashboard and make sure the file is deleted from your library as well. You then proceed to re-purchase the original Fated file which now contains the updated version.

Option two:

  • I create a new book with the same book cover, but it clearly states on it “Fated, Part Two”. I keep the price of both Fated One and Two at .99 forever–or at least until all four sections are completed and you download the new chapters.
  • I also then hold off uploading new files to any other book site like Barnes & Nobel, Kobo, iBookstore until I have the completed full file of Fated ready for the mass public.

Well, option two is looking better and better as we speak. I don’t want to make this complicated by any means and I don’t want my fans banging down my door either telling me I made this way too complicated. You think these covers make it clear enough that they contain different parts? Sure hope so…

  1. I appreciate that you are thinking of us your fans, to make this easier on us that are just waiting for each and every book………Thank you Lisa and I think the covers state it clearly!!!

  2. I like part 1 part 2 part 3 part 101 yeap, I could do parts as long as I get a CATTS fix every 6 months or less…..Not a problem here… YEA!!!

  3. I have the auto updates and like it. Your plan to do it as parts is also ok. I know some authors do this and then publish it all in one. Just so I know how to continue the story. I love the story.
